Between April and October, ABC Tropical Plant Nurseries’ plumerias erupt in a cascade of colors as our trees blossom. This is the time of year when blooms are most abundant and most often requested for lei making, floral arrangements, weddings, company get-togethers, photoshoots, and more! Depending on the seasons’ weather conditions, we may have blooms available for purchase in the state of Florida between April and early September. Typically, we work directly with local Florida florists for plumeria arrangements and bouquets, but we also have a direct-to-consumer approach for those who wish to enjoy our flowers without the need for a professional. In any case, if you are interested in purchasing plumeria blooms within the state of Florida for an event, we highly recommend that you contact us at least three weeks in advance to begin the coordinating efforts and confirm your vision is doable with foreseeable weather conditions.

Plumerias are tropical deciduous trees, which means they prefer warm temperatures year-round and go dormant in the winter. They “wake up” in Spring with bountiful bloom stalks and new leaves, but some late blooming varieties tend to leaf out first and go into full bloom during the height of summer. For this reason, we cannot guarantee that any specific variety will be in bloom during any specific time of the year. The earliest blooms of the season are usually the yellow and white varieties, followed closely by the pink and multi-colored varieties, and around late May and June the darkest reds and highly pigmented varieties will go into bloom. However, not all plumeria varieties are made equal. Each variety has its own unique characteristics with some producing flimsy blossoms which we rate as “satisfactory” in terms of keeping quality, while other have stiffer and thicker foam-like petals which have an excellent keeping quality ideal for lei making or floral arrangements. Most plumerias produce blooms with “good” keeping quality that should last roughly three days if kept refrigerated and with little wear and tear. After you contact us via email at violette@abc-pestcontrol.com and abc@abc-pestcontrol.com for the initial floral request, we will send you a form called “Plumeria flower request form.” In the form you will fill out, you will notice that there is a space to select color and number of blooms you will need. We require a minimum of 50 total flowers, with each bloom costing fifty cents, so the minimum you can expect to pay is $25. For every 250 blooms requested, we add a service charge of twenty-five dollars for the collection and storage of the flowers. For those who seek to make leis, an average lei contains 30-40 blooms, with longer leis containing up to 60 blooms. All orders, including those intended for local pick up, require prior coordination and confirmation of availability, so ensure that we have a good phone number and contact information.

Although we can arrange for blooms to be kept on the stalk, all blooms ordered from us will be loose flowers! A single bloom stalk may only have a few open blooms on it during any certain time period, but that same bloom stalk can go on blooming for months and produce several dozen blooms before it is spent if left attached to the tree. For this reason, we prefer to keep the bloom stalks attached. For those who seek to make a floral arrangement and need the longer stems, working directly with a florist is highly recommended for these delicate blossoms and arranging them according to your vision.
