3"-4" blooms, Kauilani has firm, pink and yellow petals. Kauilani flowers typically start out more pink with an orangey throat and pink veins running throughout petals, then as flowers age the yellow center broadens to contrast the pink. Finally, pink color may fade to a light pink-purplish color before falling.
Kauilani has a very distinctive growth habit in which new growth from an existing limb has a smaller contact area with the existing limb. The new growth then swells to form bulbous offshoots. Bark is more grey than green over time, and callousing of this variety can be more pronounced due to the unique swelling characteristic. Trees tend to get long and tall, with heights of 20ft achievable over time. Growth habit is upright, sturdy, and semi-compact to tall.
Scent Profile: Citrusy (much like orange blossoms, soft) Scent is sweet with zesty undertones, reminiscent of raspberries.
